Maccabi Games-Competition for Individuals with Special Needs

JCC Maccabi Games

The JCC Maccabi Games are a cultural & athletic event for Jewish teens.  The Games highlight and strengthen one’s personal connection to his/her own Judaism thus continuing the historic sports tradition passed on from generation to generation.  For additional information on the history of Maccabi games, please visit www.jccmetrowest.org/2014maccabi. 

Competition for Individuals with Special Needs

As part of the JCC Maccabi Games experience in 2014, the Cherry Hill JCC looks to offer a unique special needs component to the Games and provide families (both local & visiting) the opportunity to experience this same awesome memorable Maccabi week for their children.

WHO: Jewish teens ages 13-17 (as of 7/31/14) with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. Intake information, including an IEP will be required.

WHAT: Experience first-hand the JCC Maccabi Games and share in the incredible memories the program provides (opening ceremonies, athletic competition, nightly social events, meeting new friends, and having LOTS of FUN)

Summer Programs

Teen Tracks Travel Camp

This daily travel program during the month of August provides teens and young adults who have special needs the opportunity to spend the day in the community on daily trips, while providing them with opportunities to learn daily living skills.  Activities include trips to the beach, museums, sporting events, entertainment complexes, yoga class and more.  Program hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm daily.  Teens can attend, 1,2, 3, 4, or 5 weeks.  An intake interview is required for all participants.  4:1 camper to staff ratio.  Approved Perform Care provider.

  • 5 weeks: $3225 JCC Member/$3725 Guest
  • 4 weeks:  $2850 JCC Member/$3250 Guest

  • 3 weeks:  $2375 JCC Member/$2675 Guest

Inclusive Camp Opportunities

We work with families to provide individualized camp opportunities for chidren with special needs to attend summer camp with their typical peers.    Our Camp Friends Program (approved Perform Care provider) at Camp Deeny Riback in Flanders provides children who have special needs with a one to one shadow counselor to help each child to fully maximize his or her experience.  Shadow counselors are typically teens or college students.  Shadow programs are also available in the JCC's Early Childhood CampsExplorations Camp and Triple Threat Theatre Camp, both of which are located at the Cooperman JCC in West Orange.  Enrollment is limited.  Interview and complete intake process required for admission to the program.  For more information, call 973-530-3479 (Early Childhood Camps), 973-530-2901 (Camp Deeny Riback), 973-530-2922 (Explorations Camp) or 973-530-3421 (Triple Threat Theatre Camp).  

EC+ Me

Join Club JCC and the popular, JCC-based Exploration Camp for four weeks of fun at the JCC! Campers will be provided with the summer camp experience they have been dreaming of while receiving the supports and modifications they need to make each day a success. Campers will be included in the day to day themed activities of Exploration Camp to the greatest extent he/she is able to participate successfully. Campers will also be provided with supplemental activities as a substitute when appropriate. The daily camp schedule includes a morning meeting, themed activities, lunch, fine & gross motor activities, and swim. Participants are provided 3:1 support by our highly qualified staff.  Children’s schedules will be individualized to the greatest extent possible.  Approved Perform Care provider.

Club JCC Adult

 

The Special Needs Services Department offers weekday and weekend recreation prorgams for adults with special needs.  Our unique programs allow our participants to access the same recreational activities as their peers by providing them with the support and accomodations they need to be successful.  While the programs are specifically for adults with disabilities, our participants are simultaneously able to be included in the community as they utilize the JCC facilities and interact with other JCC members.

Sunday Supper Club

Ages 18 and over
Sundays: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Men and women ages 18 and over are invited to join Club JCC for our Supper Club from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  The program will include venturing out to local restaurants in the community. At the restaurant they will work on skills such as using a menu, budgeting, learning to order, turn-taking, and appropriate social interaction between peers and wait staff.  Participants will practice appropriate social skills in a natural environment, learn and practice manners for meal time, make nutritious choices, and to manage money.  Cost of food included in the program. Parents/guardians will be required to provide transportation to/from the restaurants in the community.

Fitness Club*

Ages 18 and over
Thursday evenings: 6:00pm-8:00pm

A fitness program including yoga and swim, targeted to adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and ADD/ADHD.  Swimsuit/towel required plus comfortable clothing for yoga.  The program is supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.

Monday nights filled with fun for just guys! Participants engage in activities that focus on life skills development and include daily living skils, current events, nutrition, health, fitness, communication, and interpersonal skills.  The group works together to create a weekly snack.  Supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.  Snack included.

Socially appropriate behaviors and interpersonal skills are taught while using recreation and leisure time.  This potpourri of activities includes: Game Night (board games, air hockey, video/card games) which focuses on turn-taking, frustration tolerance, and communication skills.  We also incorporate music which emphasizes self-expression, movement, and creativity.  Other activities include cooking/nutrition, book/literacy exploration, crafts and holiday themed celebrations.  The program is supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.  Snack is included in the fee.

Parents Night Out

After a long week of school, work, and extra-curricular activities let Club JCC take the pressure off and provide you with a pre-planned evening of fun, relaxation, and childcare! You will enjoy an evening of respite as your child enjoys activities such as swim, use of the basketball gym, arts & crafts, a movie, and other fun activities with our qualified staff.  This program is open to both our participants with special needs and their siblings.  If you can’t join us for the planned parent activity but still need childcare, feel free to drop off your child and enjoy whatever else you may have had planned! We hope that this opportunity for respite will allow you to rejuvenate!

Adult Day Program

Club JCC Adult Day Program*

 Ages 21 and over
Monday-Friday 9:00am-2:00pm

This five-day-per-week program for adults 21+ focuses on life skills activities both onsite at the JCC and in the community.  Activities include but are not limited to music, yoga, aerobics/strength/cardiovascular training, swimming/swim instruction, nutrition/calorie awareness, health awareness, social skills, food preparation, pre-vocational skills training/volunteerism, money management, community navigation, current events discussions, and communication. Supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.

Club JCC 1530

The Special Needs Services Department offers weekday and weekend recreation prorgams for young adults and adults with special needs.  These programs are designed for our participants between the ages of 15 and 30 years old.  Our unique programs allow our participants to access the same recreational activities as their peers by providing them with the support and accomodations they need to be successful.  While the programs are specifically for young adults and adults with disabilities, our participants are simultaneously able to be included in the community as they utilize the JCC facilities and interact with other JCC members. Remember though, age is just a number so please contact us if you are interested in one of these programs.

Girls Night Out*

Women ages 15-30
Monday evenings: 5:30-7:30pm

Have you been wondering what the latest fashion and make up trends are? Are you missing watching those “chic flicks?” Well Girls Night Out is just the program for you! Join us on Monday evenings for a night with the women of Club JCC.  We plan to enjoy learning about makeup, fashion, cooking, what’s new in entertainment, arts & crafts, and other fun activities.  Through these activities we will work on improving our social skills and life skills! Supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.

Club JCC on the Road

Participants ages 15-30
Join Club JCC as we hit the road for overnight trips to explore the wonderful world around us! Participants will learn to take public transportation, visit historical sites, enjoy recreational activities, and spend time with peers. The cost of the trip includes transportation, admission into local exhibits, food, and accommodations.  Participants may bring additional money for souvenirs.   Locations include Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington DC.  See program flyers for specific trip information.

Fall 2013: 11/7-11/8: Boston, MA

Winter/Spring 2014: 1/19-1/20: Philadelphia, PA and 5/25-5/26: New York City

A Day Away from the J

Participants ages 15-30
Sunday afternoons from 12:00-5:00pm

Be part of the fun as Club JCC goes off and away for a day of full of fun and adventure on Sundays from 12:00pm-5:00pm.  Participants will take transportation from the JCC to an exciting location in the tri-state area.  Venues include indoor water parks and amusement parks, art studios, and various other attractions. Our group will enjoy lunch and an afternoon of excitement with their peers.  Price of trip includes admission, lunch and transportation.  Participants may bringadditional money for snacks and souvenirs. 

Winter/Spring 2014: 5/4—iPlay America

Summer 2014: 7/20- Yankee's Game and 8/17- Keansburg Runaway Rapids 

Cost Per Trip: $130 Member/$145 Guest

 

Club JCC in the Kitchen*

Participants ages 15-30
Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Get cooking with Club JCC as we whip up a six week cooking series focusing on nutrition, hygiene, and delicious food with “Cuisine by Christine!” Our participants will enjoy preparing meals and snacks with Christine’s professional guidance.  This program will focus on allowing participants to appropriately engage during their leisure and recreation time.  Participants will learn about food preparation, a critical skill to maintain and develop independence, budgeting, nutrition, safety, health.  basic mathematic skills such as measuring.  Also emphasized will be following multi-step directions, collaboration, and improving inter-personal skills.  We will learn the ins and outs of making a delicious and nutritious meal in a safe and budget friendly manner! Price of class includes cost of food.

Get Creative with Club JCC for Adults!*

Sunday afternoons from 1:00-3:00pm

Get the creative energy flowing with Club JCC partnering with ARTS UNBOUND! The talented artists from ARTS UNBOUND will be employing a sampling of creative mediums with our members who can expect to learn a variety of artistic techniques while keeping an emphasis on hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, and organization.  This program will engage our participants individually while also encouraging collaboration and social interaction to complete some projects. The program fee will include all materials; all you need to bring is your creativity and imagination.

Club JCC Sports & Recreation*

Participants ages 15-30
Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm

A sports and recreation program for individuals with disabilities who are looking to “step up their game.” Participants will learn basic skills and rules of popular games such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and tennis. Focus on learn turn-taking skills, how to be a gracious winner and loser, and teambuilding.  This program will emphasize following directions, completing multi-step tasks, and health & fitness while improving coordination and motor skills.

     Fall 2013: 10/13, 11/10, 12/8, 1/12 (4 trips)

     Winter/Spring 2014: 2/16, 3/23, 4/27, 5/18 (4 trips)    

     Price per Sunday: $50 Member/ $55 Guest

The program is supervised by professionals with extensive experience with individuals with special needs.

Teen Tracks Travel Camp

TThis daily travel program during the month of August provides teens and young adults who have special needs the opportunity to spend the day in the community on daily trips, while providing them with opportunities to learn daily living skills.  Activities include trips to the beach, museums, sporting events, entertainment complexes, yoga class and more.  Program hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm daily.  Teens can attend, 1,2, 3, 4, or 5 weeks.  An intake interview is required for all participants.  4:1 camper to staff ratio.

  • 5 weeks: $3225 JCC Member/$3725 Guest
  • 4 weeks:  $2850 JCC Member/$3250 Guest

  • 3 weeks:  $2375 JCC Member/$2675 Guest

Get Creative with Club JCC for Kids!


Ages 7-14
Monday evenings from 5:30pm-7:00pm

Get the creative juices flowing with Club JCC partnering with ARTS UNBOUND! Artists from ARTS UNBOUND will provide a sampling of the different creative avenues available to our participants.  Ceramics, painting, creative construction projects, drawing, print making, and more. Get a little messy while having a lot of fun! Program fee includes all materials; all you need to bring is your creativity and imagination.

Ages 5-12
Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm

Wednesday evening sports and recreation program for our school-aged participants! Participants will learn basic skills and rules of popular games such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and tennis. Children will focus on appropriate social behaviors in a recreational setting while improving their gross and fine motor skills. Throughout the sessions participants will also enjoy recreational games such as freeze tag, running bases, and relay races. This program will emphasize following directions and completing multi-step tasks. Staff to participant ratio is approximately 3:1.

Skills and drills will be incorporated to introduce your child to a variety of sports.  Sports include, but are not limited to, soccer, basketball, and t-ball.  Children and parents will also enjoy playing classic games and some new ones too!

This 8 week program will feature a 10-minute free swim warm-up, 40 minutes of instruction with a certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and a 10-minute free swim cool down.
Children will:

  • learn to enjoy the water through fun activities
  • explore breath control, floating, and changing body position while moving in the water
  • learn water safety
  • learn basic kicking and arm movements
  • develop basic swimming skills such as bobbing, floating, and gliding

April 23-June 18 (no class June 4)

Globetrotters

3-5 yrs & Parent

Come travel with Crystal Martucci, art enrichment specialist, as we paint, sculpt, build, cook and taste our way around the world! We will hike, fly, and sail to exotic lands each week, where the children will have the opportunity to delve into a rich cultural exploration of art, stories, food and music native to each place we visit. Children will be exposed to new and exciting art and cooking projects each week and gain valuable insight to the world around them. All delicious and nutritious ingredients are provided by Whole Foods, Vauxhall branch. Guaranteed to be finger-licking fun! This inclusive parent/child class is sure to excite everyone. Class is open to children ages 3-5.

Join us for Music N' More a program for 3-4 year old children and their parents.  This is inclusive for all children who are excited to come sing, listen, and dance while reducing stress and improving motor skills.  Children enjoy the benefits of music and will also have the opportunity to increase their social awareness and skills.  

Susan Rosborough, will lead a supported play group featuring music, crafts, and sensory play.
